Fully Compliant Towbars for Your Motorhome
We take safety very seriously and because of this, we pride ourselves on ensuring that every motorhome towbar that we supply and fit fully complies with all the relevant safety legislation. Motorhomes registered from April 2012 can only be fitted with a European Type Approved towbar. This means that the towbar has gone through a rigorous test procedure to ensure that it is fit for the job.
Towbars that have gone through the type approval process will be issued with a type approval number and a type approval label that must be positioned on the towbar. All the towbars we supply are fully Type Approved.
Having a non-Type Approved towbar on a 2012 or newer vehicle could leave you open to prosecution under the Road Traffic Act and invalidate your insurance. Also, as towbars are now covered in an MOT, your tester should look for the approval label and may fail your MOT if this is not present. If you’re looking for advice on remaining compliant, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Motorhome Towbar FAQS
What is a motorhome towbar?
A motorhome towbar is a device that is fitted to the back of a motorhome which enables it to tow other vehicles, such as cars or vans. They come in a variety of different designs, but they all have the same basic purpose, which is to provide a safe and secure connection between the motorhome and the vehicle that is being towed.
Why would I need to tow a vehicle?
There are many different reasons why someone might want to tow a vehicle behind a motorhome. For example, if a car breaks down and needs to be towed to a garage, or if a car needs to be towed to a holiday destination. Whatever the reason, it is important to make sure that the towbar is properly fitted and that the connection between the two vehicles is secure.
How do I know which motorhome towbar I need?
There are a few things to bear in mind when choosing a towbar for your vehicle. The first is the weight of the vehicle that you will be towed. This is important because the towbar needs to be strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle, as well as any luggage or other belongings that might be inside it. The second thing to consider is the type of connection that you need. There are two main types of connection, which are known as a ball and socket connection, or a pin and clip connection. The type of connection that you choose will depend on the type of vehicle that you are towing, as well as the type of hitch that is fitted to the towing vehicle.
What are the different types of motorhome towbars you supply and fit?
We supply and fit the following types of towbars:
- Towbars
- Towbars with chassis extensions
- Towbars with additional strengthening bracing
- Flange towbars
- Swan neck towbars
- Detachable towbars
What is the difference between each of the motorhome towbars you supply and fit?
We hold extensive data on most motorhomes so that we can ensure to quote for the best quality and best fitting towbar for your motorhome.
What are the different makes and models of motorhome towbars you supply and fit?
We stock towbars from all the leading brands from all over Europe so that we have towbars to fit every modern motorhome. These include Liberco Systems, Memo Europe, ALKO, Aragon, Towtrust, Witter, PCT, SMV and many more.
Do the motorhome towbars come with any sort of guarantee / extended warranty?
As standard, most professionally fitted towbars come with a lifetime structural guarantee, whilst the electrics come with a one year guarantee.
What is the cost of supplying and fitting a motorhome towbar?
Prices currently range from between £950 and £1,950 depending on what is required.
Can I use a motorcycle rack on a motorhome with a towbar installed?
Yes, but it would need to be mounted to the chassis or chassis extensions, not directly onto the towball.
Can I use a bicycle rack on a motorhome with a towbar installed?
Yes, and you could also have a chassis-mounted carrier fitted with or without a towbar.
Can I use a trailer on a motorhome with a towbar installed?
Yes, that is absolutely fine.
Do you offer a price match service for motorhome towbars that are found cheaper elsewhere?
No, we do not offer a price match service. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent and unrivalled quality and service.
What is the process of fitting a motorhome towbar?
We often find that the existing chassis extension supports are not strong enough to support towing, so new ones need to be fitted in place of/in addition to the existing ones. Cross/torsion bars are then added, and then the towbar and the diagonal/corner bracing are added to prevent twists.
Once fitted and torqued, sometimes existing piping, hoses or cables may need rerouting, then a dedicated 13 pin full-function electric kit is installed, which runs from the back right up to the dashboard of the vehicle.
These days the electrics kits are normally CAN-BUS controlled and need coding using special tools to correctly activate and integrate the electrics kit.
How long does it take to fit a motorhome towbar?
It usually takes around 4-5 hours of labour by a professional with experience.
What is the cost to fit a motorhome towbar that I have purchased elsewhere?
For reasons of warranty, traceability and liability, we would not install a towbar not supplied by us.
What Motorhomes Do You Supply and Fit Towbars For?
